With every piece being hand cut + edges left raw, hair tatters reflects the Japanese

philosophy of wabi-sabi,

loosely translated to a buddhist belief that imperfection 𝓲𝓼 perfection. That a state of bliss arises when we appreciate charm of that which is not machine-made + cookie cutter. Wabi-sabi softly asserts that the most beautiful things in life are unusual, asymmetrical, mended, cracked, out of place, or weathered.

♥︎ observing a crumbling wooden fence being called back to the earth, covered in vegetation… for a moment wondering of the hands that built it, the pride + determination they felt in doing so, and finally the whisper of Mother Earth reclaiming both the person + their creation

♥︎ Kintsugi - the Japanese art of putting broken pottery pieces back together with gold, a metaphor for embracing your flaws and imperfections

The girl behind hair tatters (me 🖖🏼) started the company as a way to earn a living despite my own imperfections. Both of my hands are a little (lot) disabled, and giving 8+ hours a day of labor to an employer is not possible anymore. Making people feel beautiful is something I love, so I joined it with my abilities, and hair tatters was born.
